Anyone remember the Peanuts Cartoon? Charlie Brown, and Lucy and Pigpen? Years ago, after reading Emmanuel’s suggestion that we “see yourselves as truly God-like beings with the delicious task of spreading Light wherever you are,” I imagined myself having bits of light drop off me as I walked along the road, the way bits of dirt dropped from Pigpen.
Try it yourself. Each time you walk along a certain road, imagine that you are a creature with so much inner light that bits are shed with each step – along the sidewalk, scattering on the people nearby, into the air to be spread by the wind. Not dust. Light.
This is empowering for many reasons: the idea of us having this much inner light, the way our attention is in the moment, and well, it can make us feel better.
